Welcome to Hopkins County Happy Feet

Making a difference one step at a time!

How We Started

In 2009, Jerry Baird, a retired coal miner, had an idea of a way to give back to kids in his local community. His idea flourished and has since spread to 16 counties in Western Kentucky. Each county is run by its own committee and fundraises to provide shoes for students within their county limits. The Hopkins County Happy Feet was launched in 2012.

Who Is Eligible

Eligible Students are identified by the Family Resource Center of each school within Hopkins County’s Public School District. A student’s physical and mental health is a priority of the program. Not having basic personal items can distract a student from performing well in school. A new pair of shoes can build self-esteem and prevent bullying.

What About Donations

One of the most important factors is that ALL donations raised in Hopkins County stay in Hopkins County and help to benefit the students within our own school district. All donations are tax deductible. Hopkins County Happy Feet is completely funded from community donations. All administrative and committee duties are done on a volunteer basis and do not earn salaries.

Upcoming Events
Be-YOU-tiful

Through this new initiative, families will be able to shop for free clothing. Our Family Resource Youth Service Center coordinators will help make sure families’ needs are met.

The Friendship Corner is made possible through a partnership with Project Friendship, an outreach effort of Chabad of Kentucky. They plan to open Project Friendship Closets in three Kentucky counties that were hit by the December tornadoes. Rabbi Chaim Litvin announced the statewide effort today in Frankfort. He was joined at the announcement by Kentucky Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman, Dr. Eric Friedlander, secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services; and Consul General of Israel to the Southeast Anat Sultan-Dadon (Israel in Atlanta).

Our district’s partnership with Hopkins County Happy Feet is also vital to this project! Knight and Sons Monument is donating this space to Happy Feet for the Bee-YOU-tiful Boutique, and Happy Feet is sharing the space to include the Friendship Corner. The location on Center Street is open by appointment only.

We want to thank everyone who has made this project possible! We look forward to serving our families at the Friendship Corner!
